The Mario Kart Wii Wheel while may seem like another accessory you don't need to play Mario Kart successfully, it is actually a must have.  Whenever my sister is in town we usually end up playing Mario Kart. Of course, since it's my console I always get to use the Wii Wheel that I bought with the game. It's funny because my sister will be struggling to try to drive with only the remote, trying to find the right way to hold it and I'll be having fun racing in the game. While that does suck and makes me feel bad all of a sudden, having the wheel accessory makes the game more fun and enjoyable. Plus, it gives you the feeling that you're driving and is light weight and comfortable to hold.

The DDR dance mat is obviously essential to the game, and there are a great variety of mats. The Nintendo dance mat is standard to the Wii game, and several companies have offered cheaper dance mats which are of course inferior. The main problem with this mat is slipping off while dancing, or having the dance mat gradually move away from you as you dance. This is also a problem with the Wii mat if you're playing on carpet. Solve this by attaching some material to each corner of the mat which might hold it in place. Be creative. You won't find a better mat unless you buy an arcade style one that is fully metal and ready to withstand a nuclear explosion. The upside to this mat is that it's very sensitive, so you don't have to pound on the arrows to get a perfect score. After playing for hours on end with this mat with the "expert" setting, Satori recommends that you play on a hard surface or attach something to the mat to prevent slipping, otherwise you will find yourself with an awful score and an aggravated brain.
