Gameplay:

This might be your standard FPS in many aspects, but it's graphics engine and interactive environment are so revolutionary that few have even had the technological ability to see this game at its finest. Without 2 gigs of ram and a high end graphics card, and at least a Core 2 Duo, you will not be able to appreciate how good this game really is. With that said, however, for those that meet those specs this game is revolutionary in multiple ways. As a special forces soldier dropped on a remote island with a mysterious mission, you will encounter your share of gunfire on boats, in jungles, and along the beaches as you run, swim, and drive in many different vehicles to get a grip on the phenomena happening all around you. Crysis employs unique actions, giving your character a special suit with powerful abilities for you to switch back and forth from: maximum strength, speed, armor, and cloak. Hike through numerous interactive jungles, buildings, and forests to unravel a very interesting, and suspenseful plot. Be a silent assassin or a mass murderer as you switch from an arsenal of weapons: silenced pistols and machine guns, C4, remote mines, rocket launchers, and more. Destroy entire outposts, forests, and even buildings with your unlimited strength.

Graphics:

This is the most astounding aspect of Crysis, as most have come to hail it for. Customize your video card options from low to extreme, and witness the most spectacular water effects, explosions, and detailed environments that rival every game before it. Imagine F.E.A.R. with all physics options on high, and then multiply that by two. The jungles are lush, and each tree is capable of being blown down with your weapons. Each environmental element is just as reactive to your movements and actions, which multiplies the fun in gameplay many times over. The AI have realistic complexions which are neither pixilated nor blocky, and you can even detect blemishes on their skin. Hair texture and muscle tone, facial expressions and smooth animation; Crysis has it all. The obvious disappointment for many is that Crysis has extremely high system requirements. Even with a Core 2 Duo, a decent graphics card, and 2 gigs of ram, you will be crying when you witness the abominable graphics. Crysis is not friendly with older equipment.

Sound:

Sound always depends on your equipment, but with decent headphones or speakers you will be able to realize how life-like the weapons and environmental sounds are. With full ambient sound effects and music fit for a suspenseful mission, Crysis creates full environments with sound alone. Character voices are also top notch, and the developers went way beyond making the voices merely tolerable. Where voice acting many times ruins a game's appeal, you will see this is not true with Crysis. Whether it's your enemies screaming for backup or your friends warning you about the extraterrestrial looking beings up ahead, you will be engaged from the beginning.

Replay Value:

It's difficult to achieve high replay value with any FPS, but Crysis does an excellent job. After completing the main missions in the game, you will find yourself playing through at least once more in order to fully explore the complex environments. Crysis is far from linear, so you can explore one island for hours without actually moving further in your mission. All in all, the landscapes of the game leave much to be explored. And there are many enemies to be tortured. The lack of online play could be a disappointment for many online gamers, but with this type of FPS it can be just as entertaining without the online option.

Own, Rent, Avoid:

Own: As the greatest looking game ever made to date, it's imperative that any PC gamer witnesses this revelation in game development. With at least 20 hours of interactive fun in multiple massive environments, most gamers will enjoy this well-rounded FPS.

Last Thoughts:

Though you must have an optimal PC for this game, with at least 2GB of ram and a high end graphics card, and a dual core processor, this game is simply incredible in every element. For gamers who have well-stocked PCs, this is your FPS.
